One of the purposes God gave the Church is to advance His mission, and we seek to do that in the beauty and brokenness of this city. At Christ Central, we long to see everyone who is a part of our church live intentionally toward seeing God’s kingdom come to earth as it is in heaven.
Everything we do is for God’s glory.
We take rest seriously and believe that in order to grow in Christ, we must slow down.
Spreading the gospel means getting out of our comfort zones and saying yes to God’s call.
We seek to be a diverse community that reflects the beautiful makeup of our city.
We share the heart of Christ to welcome and celebrate every person—as you are.
We equip our congregation and leaders to grow spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically.
Prayer is not just submitting our requests to God but also our whole selves to Him.
Our church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
A fuller statement of what we believe is expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.
We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God's truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that salvation is by God alone, as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises.
We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God's people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.
We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people unto Himself.
We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
The idea of planting Christ Central Church began in 2010 when two friends dreamed of starting a church in downtown Durham. Three years later, an initial group of people committed to meeting for weekly Bible study, prayer, and discussion about the church.
We launched our first public worship service in January 2014, and God has been so gracious to us ever since. By the grace of God, we have experienced tremendous growth. What began as a prayer quickly grew to a group of 40 people and has since turned into something much larger.
God provided an opportunity to purchase and renovate a history building in the center of Durham as a long-term ministry home for Christ Central. We launched our Make Visible Capital Campaign at the start of the year.
As we look ahead, we know God has called us to be a church that loves its place and seeks His glory. We hope to be a place where people ask questions and where people who might not say they are connected to a church would feel welcome.
Join us this Sunday as we worship Jesus through music, prayer, and gospel-centered teaching. Whether you're new to faith or have followed Christ for years, you’re welcome here. The service lasts about 75 minutes, with children’s ministry available for ages six months to 5th grade. Come as you are—we’d love to welcome you.
